The group as a whole obviously have a lot of fun with this show, and it’s infectious: watching them play with the character who has been frozen, changing roles between them when needed, and every so often throwing something at each other to confuse matters, all came together to make a very funny show. The audience showed their appreciation, laughing so hard the raked seating sometimes shook. You can’t ask for more than that.

If you’re a Doctor Who fan (the correct term for an aficionado, not a Whovian), then Any Suggestions, Doctor? is a must see. If you’re a casual viewer who understands and enjoys the basics of the series, you’ll enjoy it.

An electrifying atmosphere akin to waiting for the latest ride at Blackpool or Alton Towers. It’s just magic. Equally as entrancing are are the performances of each and every member of the cast. There are five actors who gel better than superglue, and give so generously to each other that the results cannot be anything other than superb. Such ability to think so fast and adapt at extreme speed to each others’ ever-changing dialogue is such a treat to witness, even if you are not a Dr.Who know-it-all. Last night’s performance was brilliant.

It could be argued they have created something better than the writing of the previous TV seasons.

Filled with in-jokes and good-natured jabs at the highs and lows of the series, fans of the show will be pleased to recognise familiar side characters and notable moments in Doctor Who history mixed throughout an unfolding tale of science fiction whimsy. But while steadfast fans will enjoy the nods to the series, even those unfamiliar with the specifics can enjoy the antics of this bubbly cast of potential Doctors, enthusiastic companions, and not-so-menacing foes.

The sight of three of the cast pottering about on stage with plungers, egg whisks, and camping torches strapped to their heads is delightfully silly and the choice to play the Daleks as neurotics with daddy issues pays of fantastically when the whole thing is revealed to be the machinations of the Master who plans to set himself up as ruler of the Daleks by providing a solid father figure. It’s funny, fast paced, and even manages to fit in a moral at the end. I’m sure the Doctor would approve.
